Quick facts

Population approximately 2,500 including Mt. Beauty and the bordering areas of Tawonga South and Tawonga.

344 kilometres north-east of Melbourne.

Nestled at the foot of Victoria's highest mountain, Mount Bogong, in the fertile Kiewa Valley.

Initially developed in 1949 to house workers during construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric scheme. The hydroelectric scheme has recently expanded with the development of the new Bogong Power Station.

Living up to its name, Mount Beauty has many scenic highlights and enjoyable attractions both in and around the township. Mount Beauty now prospers as a popular tourist destination with much to offer -

  • tranquil fishing in clear mountain streams and in the Kiewa River
  • bushwalking in the Alpine National Park
